Cricket is in Jemma Barsby’s genes, with her father Trevor playing over 110 First-Class matches for Queensland and also coaching the Bulls post-retirement. Barsby followed in Trevor’s footsteps and made her WNCL debut for Queensland at only 15 years of age. Barsby excelled at underage championships and won the Betty Wilson Trophy as the standout player in the Under 18 Nationals in 2012, with performances like that earning her Australia A selection. Ahead of the 2020/21 WNCL season, Barsby moved to South Australia to join the Scorpions squad and quickly impressed, captaining the side in the absence of her Australian teammates. An all-rounder in every sense of the word, the middle-order batter is also ambidextrous in her bowling, impressively possessing the ability to bowl off-spin both left and right-handed. Barsby suffers from multiple sclerosis and is an ambassador to help raise awareness and funding for the disease.
